Week wrap-up: Nov 24
Here's what I liked this week!!
InFlux Redux is out today! - Joe Wintergreen
Joe posted about his game release. I enjoyed his notes about the process of deciding what "remastered enough" might be for his game - what do you have to add for something to "feel like" a remaster? What do The Gamers desire and demand? It's hard to know, particularly when the main person you must satisfy is yourself.
I have considered """"remastering"""" some of my twine games and non-game narrative experiences in standalone appa because I think I could do some crazy shit with audio, particularly for experiences like The Brigand's Story, which I like and hate enough that I'd want to revise it, haha. What makes a remaster???
Bus Driver Bulletins - Fredy
Fredy is collecting news about buses in link roundup bulletins which collect everything that has Happened To Buses within a given week. Incredible work. Great use of neocities! I also really enjoyed Fredy's writeup of an abandoned bus terminal in Los Angeles.
Interview with Culver City Councilmember-Elect Bubba Fish - Joe Linton
Here's an interview with the city council member I wrote about earlier this week. Good interview! Covers the political history of the town and the recent fate of our bike lanes under the previous conservative majority. In the weeks before the election, I tagged every Strava ride I did with a curse upon their names, but even now I can't remember whether Goran's last name is Ericsson or Eriksson or Erickson. (I do remember how, in 2023, he said that children should not play outside in order to avoid breathing in pollution? And therefore my town should not have more bike lanes? Or something? He's got mashed potatoes instead of brains.) Very glad to have him replaced by Bubba!
Computer store pictures - Michael Klamerus
I can't remember if I posted about this before, but I really enjoy Michael's computer store photodumps from decades past. The tag is here and there's a new post there with a bunch of pictures of store product displays. I dimly, dimly remember some of this stuff... the box designs, anyway? The manager setting up the Windows 95 display is a very funny shot.
Powering an E-Bike using Disposable Vape Batteries - Chris Doel
This was a pretty widely-shared video a couple weeks ago, but if you missed it, I do recommend watching it. It's the kind of thing that's interesting for the tinkering but also enraging because it makes you wonder why these fucking things are even legal. The batteries in these "disposable" vapes are fucking hefty!! Why is making or selling them even legal????
