10,000 tiles and counting. Checking in with 'Save The Tiles' volunteers, one month later - Evan Jacoby

A lot of the houses that burned down in Altadena had ancient fireplaces covered in historic, handmade ceramic tiles. This article digs into the progress made by local masons to remove the tiles from the wreckage on behalf of their owners before the Army Corps of Engineers destroys the fireplaces and carts them away. Original article here. The tiles are insanely expensive and rare and were made locally here in LA nearly a hundred years ago. Here is a Wikipedia article about one of the original tile-makers whose tiles ended up in Altadena.

Mahjong Love Affair - thecatamites

Game maker thecatamites put this up in january but I only got around to looking at it just now. It's a web shrine for screenshots of mahjong videogames and boy howdy are these some good screenshots. Incredible stuff. There is a shot of a lady stomping on batman (?) in red high heels, and a shot of a mahjong game where you appear to be playing against a hot LOTR type elf, and a variety which use tantalizing women and men as objects of desire to distract? enthrall? you as you play mahjong. There is also a screenshot of a tank that is going to shoot you in the face? while you are playing mahjong. Anything you could ever imagine has happened in one of these games.

A new job - hellojed

This post from hellojed gets into what it's like to look for a job in games right now. There are a lot of interesting observations in here - like how changing the title of your resume PDF can affect your response rate. 💀

Blendo Localizer - Brendon Chung

Oh damn, I'm posting about my own game's tools. Here's a writeup from Brendon about the localization tool we use to manage strings in the game. I use this tool constantly while helping the team address issues with strings.
