Week round-up: Feb 23
Each week continues to heap new indignities upon us. But here's some links:
How I make my Choice of Games interactive fiction - Harris Powell-Smith
Loved this breakdown from Harris about the actual work involved in ideating, planning, and executing a commercial interactive fiction project from start to finish.
A Sportslike Manifestso
This manifesto from Grapefruit Games, aka Robert Yang and Eddie Cameron, is a great read. Also features a list of really good games-about-sports to play.
Clear the way; cyclists make snow plow to clear bike paths - Kaitlin Gelhaus/ABC 6
This news story from the ABC channel in Providence, RI shows how bike riders plowed a bike path themselves after the city refused to plow MUPs used by pedestrians and cyclists. The video on this article shows the plow in action: it consists of a folded piece of metal, a massive hunk of wood, and a car tire all towed behind an ebike. Incredible work. However... snowy east coast cities that don't plow their bike paths are complete piece of shit clown operations and the officials in charge of these city services in Providence/the RI state DOT should be ashamed of themselves! There's an offhand remark in the video here that one local agency claims that they avoid plowing these crucial paths so that people can "take part in winter activities" like snowshoeing and cross country skiing. Go fuck yourself, lmao. Nobody's gonna snow shoe to the grocery store on a bike path. I'm glad that the local coverage of this shit is so critical.
Fish Fear Me
Fish Fear Me from Heather Flowers is out now! I love it. it is more deranged than Snake Farm which is a great thing to be.
My Favorite Runs From AGDQ 2025 - Mike Egan
I was too busy during AGDQ this year (Skin Deep ate up all my free time that week) so I was glad to see this list of recommended runs from Mike Egan. I've been slowly working my way through it.
Why is there a photo of me with Fidel Castro in the late 1950's - MSD
Loved this post about the writer finding a 1950s-era doppelganger in an old (sometimes-heavily-edited) photo of Fidel Castro. Do you know this man?!? Can we ever??
Captain America: Brave New World is a mess — but the ‘5D’ version I saw was even messier - Michael McWhertor
This painful account of a "5D" Marvel movie screening had me choking. They fucking blasted the audience with little pellets of soil. What in the hell!! People have gotta stop adding additional levels of D to their movie screenings. I did the "D-Box" once at a Cinemark and it sucked. At least nobody blasted me with pellets of potting soil!!
