Discord Channels - v buckenham

v writes about a bunch of cool discord channel topics you might want to steal for your own online communities.

NYC's Urban Textscape - Matt Daniels, Yufeng Zhao

I follow the Pudding in my RSS reader but I don't think I have ever written about it here before? It's a website that does a lot of data journalism - some genuinely interesting, some more toylike and silly - and often publishes that journalism in an interactive format. This new piece exposes some data about words scraped from NYC's Google Street View imagery. It links to Yufeng Zhao's website alltext.nyc which is on its own an interesting data tool. You can basically just search any phrase at all and see where it turns up in NYC. Great shit. I definitely searched for some phrases I'm familiar with from my own yearly trips there.

Cool Game Dev Finds #3 - Brody Brooks

Brody is really good at picking out cool new gamedev tools - in particular, tools you can get for free. his latest collection is mostly modeling and texturing tools, but there are two different locally-hosted Notion clones in there that I plan to check out.

Switching to Obsidian - Dante Douglas

Dante's got an interesting post about what it was like for him to incorporate Obsidian into his creative practice. I have made a couple separate attempts to start using Obsidian and haven't been able to get into it, but I really enjoyed reading about someone who did actually Figure It Out.
