Week round-up: 2/16
Adam Le Doux's bookmarklet games
Here's a collection of games which "live" inside a bookmark in your browser. Clicking the bookmark causes javascript to run a little game either in your browser window, or as a kind of layer on the website you are already looking at. Really interesting! I currently have NETTLE installed, which turns the text of your current page into a kind of Wordle experience. Here's Adam's blog post about how the games are made.
Bus Driver Bulletin issue 3 - fredy
Fredy has posted a new collection of Bus Driver News! I don't know much about buses but I love this project. I did learn something very relevant to my own life from this post: light rail and bus lane conversion projects are now exempt from CEQA review in California, which should be a huge boost to a lot of transit projects in my region and elsewhere. CEQA is a Californian environmental review process which was put in place to prevent environmental damage, but which is very often used to block or delay projects like bus lanes and rail which would reduce car dependency. (It's also gotten in the way of a lot of dense housing. CEQA needs an overhaul bad.) Anyway, check out Fredy's post to see if any bus news relevant to YOU is in here!
That time I broke my high school mail server - Nolen Royalty
This post about teens causing tech problems at school was a fun read. Reminded me of the bullshit my friends would get up to in high school and college.
The Digimon Box - Mike Egan
I really enjoyed this incredibly detailed description of the writer's ancient Digimon keepsake box. I don't know much about Digimon but I found it a fascinating read. Brought up a lot of parallel memories for me about Pokemon and other childhood fascinations.
HTHRFLWRS #11 - The Precipisce - Heather Flowers
I enjoyed Heather's breakdown of some of the opportunities and challenges inherent in roguelike development.
