Very good jumpscare needle drop
I was reading up about some upcoming supernatural VNs when I followed a link to this Steam page and got jumpscared by the spooky-sounding "trailercore" needle drop. This trailer has a bazillion views on YouTube but somehow I missed it before.
Just listen... it's very funny.
I think it's mostly pretty stupid that trailers are constantly using slow and "spooky" like, halloween-style covers of songs that are NOT spooky, but sometimes it's hilarious.
I'm also interested in how expensive, exactly, this particular needle drop was. It's one of those things where I doubt I could guess correctly if you gave me a hundred chances. I have no point of reference for it! The version that millennials are most familiar with was a Eurodance cover. The original has a very funny and strange music video where a kid chases around a spooky juggler, who scampers around on stilts wearing a scary mask. A guitarist enveloped in shadow strums facelessly in the dark. I guess we've just gone full circle on the spooky shit, huh?
I have sometimes idly wondered whether I would ever want to license an existing song for a game, but every time I end up thinking that it would simply be better to hire someone to make music appropriate for the interactive situation, so it's never struck me as a serious possibility. I've never thought carefully about covers, though...
