Tried to use Blender Video Sequencer

Last week I spent some time trying to get used to Blender video editor. My husband primarily uses this editor (after years of using Blender for modeling) so I figured it would be good to get on the same page as him in case we ever need to share editor files or editing duty for a promotional asset.

Damn, it's hard!!!!! I tried editing an "AMV" out of footage from the 1978 Lord of the Rings animation. I immediately encountered many strange UI decisions... like a hard cap for the number of frames in the video which I could only enter in a teeny tiny field in the bottom right corner of the screen.

Every once in a while, Brendon would suggest that I do something, only to discover that the shortcuts did not work in my copy of Blender for some reason. We also found a lot of differences between my version of the UI and the version of Blender he'd been using.

Anyway, it was a learning experience. I won't post the video I made here, but just imagine a mediocre music video of the first 2 minutes of Psycho Killer by the Talking Heads, made out of strange selections from this visually incredible movie (I highly recommend it; it is is both bad an a crucial watch).

Brendon responded to my woes by making a very very basic and brief "get started" tutorial for Blender Video Editor here. Check it out! It's hard to find a tutorial for this stuff that was useful to me... either the version was out of sync with what I was using, or it assumed some preexisting knowledge of Blender animation that I simply don't have... or it assumed I was sequencing video of an animation I made, rather than an animation of Frodo looking deranged that I just downloaded off the internet. Thank you for your help Brendon!!
