There is a person who uses Planet Coaster to make rollercoasters that tell the entire plot of a classic movie
This is a repost of a post I made on Cohost in March 2023! Some of the coasters I posted about are no longer available on the user's account, so I've either replaced example links or noted those changes where possible.
The creator is called Johnmalla2xlc. They appear to be French. They are fascinated with American blockbusters and absolutely cannot stop turning them into Planet Coaster coasters, which they call "movie rides."
The specificity with which they recreate the plots of some of these movies is blowing me away.
This shit is so detailed!! Making this would feel like WORK to me. This person is basically set dressing an entire fucking videogame. What the fuck!!
Some of the coasters are more like, homages to the movie, but the ones I'm linking here have full credits sequences and fully recreate the entire plot beat-for-beat with accompanying movie dialogue.
A lot of the "movie rides" here are very strange choices. There's one based on the Darren Aronofsky Noah?? (NOTE: This was taken down between 2023 and 2024 and is no longer available.) There's an extremely simple one based on the French release of Cool Runnings, which was apparently called Rasta Rockett?? They made twenty solid minutes of Titantic-themed movie coaster split up across two videos. I would not have chosen to turn The Blair Witch Project into a rollercoaster, but this person did. (NOTE: This movie was also taken down between when I posted on cohost and today. Which is a shame because this one was fucking incredible.)
The creator often gives themselves the credit of "director" or "special effects" in the credits sequences. Their use of height, speed, transitions between indoors and outdoors, audio timing, and props is definitely very expressive. Some of them mix the kind of animatronic theatrics of a dark ride or rollercoaster with sequences that feel almost like a perspective camera wander through a movie set.
They are cranking out, like, 2 or three of these a month, sometimes. This must be their biggest hobby. The Back to the Future one is the most-watched, with 17k views, but a lot of these have been watched only a couple hundred times, like the Crocodile Dundee adaptation from two weeks ago. When I found their page, many of their videos seem to have capped out in the 400s. Perhaps they have only that many loyal subscribers?
I feel like there's an interview in here somewhere but I don't work in that field anymore, haha. This creator has interests beyond American blockbusters from the 80s and 90s... some of their coasters are actually based on games, and one is based on concert audio from a Dutch DJ. They once made a 22-minute-long, French-language adaptation of Steven Spielberg's Duel, but in GTA 5. (NOTE: Tragically this one is also gone!!)
The world is full of fascinating people!!
