Possessors has released!

I've spent the last two years working on Possessors, the new metroidvania from Heart Machine, as a writer. I joined the project halfway through and helped push the game across the finish line with its narrative director, Tyler Hutchison.

Possessors is about a 16 year old girl named Luca who has allowed herself to be possessed by an ancient, otherworldly demon named Rhem. Rhem and Luca are both struggling to deal with volatile, collapsing relationships in their personal lives, and they've got a lot to learn from one another about how to handle that kind of thing... or how not to handle it. (Luca has a lot of advice for Rhem on this topic, but she's 16, and an idiot. I really enjoyed writing her, haha!)

I've been glad to see reviewers speaking positively about the story. I wrote this article about late-dev script revisions late last year, after participating in the first of two major revision passes on Possessors. It summarizes my philosophy about game script revision and goes over how I've run several of these processes at different studios in the last 6 years. If you want to know how to get a narrative game into shape for ship, late in dev, after the kind of major redesigns and content changes that are inevitable on any game project, check out that post!

And if you want to play a narrative metroidvania with some Smash Bros-adjacent combat, check out Possessors!
