Now is a time to call your reps

There's a variety of disgusting provisions contained within the current budget bill going through the US senate - it will take all trans healthcare off of Medicaid, which provides 1 in 5 American trans people with their healthcare - and will likely remove trans healthcare from any plans enabled by the ACA as well. It also prevents any regulation of LLM style technology below the federal level for the next 10 years.

I know most of the American people who bother to read my blog will be horrified by this shit. Now is a perfect time to contact your representatives and express your anger about it as firmly as possible.

It is also extremely important for those of you in red states to contact your senators and congresspeople and freak out about this. Don't tell yourself, "oh, they won't listen to me because they are a republican." They are doing what they're doing because they believe that people like you cannot run them out of office. But you can, in fact, run them out of office - republican policy is insanely unpopular right now. Scare the shit out of them now and vote them out later... but scaring the shit out of them now is important, because it can save hundreds of thousands of lives.

The trans healthcare stuff in particular is shocking and evil. I have PCOS and take spironolactone for it. The spironolactone - when I remember to take it - is supposed to have "gender affirming" effects on me! It stops me from growing a beard. It is utterly deranged and evil that while I can take a testosterone blocker to stop myself from growing a goddamn beard, others can't. We are not so far off from the various apocalyptic gender dystopias described in fiction over the last few decades. I imagine if I grew up today the way I did in the 90s and early 2000s - extremely gender-nonconforming, my behavior and appearance rendered perplexingly androgynous by both my own desire, and by parental fear of typical teenage girlhood - I, too, would find my smallest behaviors insanely politicized by evil creeps.

I don't believe in hell, but I wish I did, because this is the kind of evil that should lead to eternal torment. I've so far avoided loading my representatives up with biblical imprecations, but I'm considering it for next time.
