My Steam 2024 wrapup
According to Steam, my gaming habits in 2024 are best described as:
- Colony Sim
- Dwarf
- MMORPG
- Roguelike Deckbuilder
- Open World Survival Craft
- Metroidvania
I am so good at Dwarf, people. I'm Dwarfing it up big time.
Hour-based games wrapups are uniquely bad at illuminating my gaming habits. I play a lot of games for a very short amount of time for research, and my husband and I often each play the games the other buys, usually for less than an hour. A lot of my best memories in 2024 are for games I played for less than 5 or 10 hours as research.
The other thing I do with games is purely, like, self-soothing - thus the enormous impact of Dwarf Fortress on my Steam hour count. I barely remember doing any of this because it's so routine and has been such a huge part of my life for so many years. I'm not really learning anything new these days when I create an elaborate water-pumping system in my Dwarf Fortress map. I'm whiling away the hours to protect and restore my tender brain.
The other thing is that the biggest game I played this year was, actually, wandrer.earth. I played that one out in real life on my bicycle. :) I played a lot fewer games this year than last year because such a huge part of my Gaming Time took place out of the house. Not since Ingress have I been such an ARG Mobile Gamer...
