More bike pictures from reddit

I'm back with my first bike picture roundup in several months. Enjoy this harvest of preposterous bike photos.

  1. This deranged suspension system from an 1880s bike in a bike museum is amazing. The museum's gallery page is incredible and has a ton of great old bikes in it with ridiculous suspension systems. Better than that bike exhibit in the Chicago MSI I blogged about last year!
  2. Good luck to the rider of this wooden ebike. I hope that if he gets in a crash he doesn't get impaled by splinters. I can imagine it being like a scene from Master and Commander if things go wrong.
  3. This person's sweat is so corrosive that it literally ate holes in their handlebars.

  1. A wild photo of a bike that was completely melted in one of the LA fires. Looks like the aluminum may have completely melted and pooled and re-hardened? Mindboggling shit.
  2. Deranged home-engineered bike with some extremely bizarre decisions going on. Trying to figure out what the goal was here. The handlebars in particular are an alien-brained thing. It's also an ebike which makes it even worse!!
  3. A crossposted Instagram reel of someone who seems to have turned their cargo bike into some kind of dog-based transportation rig. The dog runs in the middle of the cargo space with its feet on the ground, and a harness on the dog keeps the human and the bike positioned above and around it.
  4. It may take you a moment to notice what's wrong here, but this bike has two separate drivetrains, one on each side of the bike. I cannot imagine what the goal is!! (If you want to see a bike with two chains that have some reason for existing together, check out this article about the next design from Buffalo bikes, a company which creates low-cost, highly durable, modifiable steel bikes for sale mostly to NGOs and charities whose missions involve donating bikes to impoverished rural populations. They are launching a bike with two chains and two separate gear systems. Not sure if this is a good idea but it sure is interesting!)

  1. I thought this post was a joke but this poster is genuinely looking for bags and racks to put on a preposterous concept bike. If you are lucky enough to own a bike like this, surely you are also knowledgeable and wealthy enough to buy, like... any fucking normal bike off of ebay or craigslist instead? And put gear on it instead??

  1. Because they want to die, this person converted a rim brake bike to a disk brake bike using entirely fittings bolted onto attachment points - and cushioned with zip ties - and spaced with individually-set screws. Fascinating! Why!!!!!!!!
  2. Finally, something that looks good instead of bad: some really bizarre rainbow-anodized components. Whatever is going on with that chainring is nuts.
  3. A cargo bike designed for hauling a dog. I love that the dog's name is Fernet??
  4. I like the tail pipes on this Neutrino minivelo. Pointless but delightful.

  1. A bike with a wooden table for a rear wheel. I would guess that this table is from a pizza place, haha.
  2. A video of a "rocket bicycle" test from the early 20th century. I hope the guy is OK??? I do appreciate that they very clearly gave the rider some sort of enormous fireproof diaper to protect his ass from the rocket flames.
  3. Yet another all-over scribble bike paint job! I love the way these look.
  4. A bike so long it's a bad idea. Brave attempt, however.
  5. Some real Mad Max shit. I love that it has two front wheels but they're staggered instead of side-by-side? Bizarre!
  6. We will never run out of guys who want to make a bike that you ride by bunny hopping. Try googling Cavallo bikes sometime... it's a thing people won't let go of!
