Apparently FIFA made a list of all known individuals who died playing soccer from 2014 to 2018
There were 617 of them!! What the fuck!!
The list is called the "FIFA Sudden Death Report". You can find the report here. Most of the deaths were attributed to coronary heart disease. This research was apparently spurred by concern around a rash of professional players dying on the pitch.
I found the link to this study on a Wikipedia page for "Association football players who died while playing". I had no idea there were so many!! 21 died in 2021???
