I went to Comic Arts LA
CALA is an independent comics event in LA every year! I try to go every year and most of the art on my walls is prints from CALA.
This year I could not go nutso and buy a ton of prints due to being laid off, but I did buy some prints... when I get them on my walls, I may take proper photos of them.
The one thing I bought that I will tell you about now is this goblin shirt from Frog Farm, a risograph press that was selling a ton of cool riso stuff, but also this very good shirt with ugly guys on it. To me this is peak Laura clothing. I justified it to myself with the fact that I moved out of my apartment with very few clothes and have been wearing the same like 5 shirts everywhere for the last 3 months. Now I have, like, shirt number six, and it is a very good one.
I love this event a lot and have been going since the first year I dated my husband, which was nine years ago now, which is crazy. It is very odd to realize that our home is almost entirely decorated with weird like 10-15 dollar prints from comics artists from this one event. If you have a similar independent comics event or zine fest in your area... this is your reminder to go!!
There is no ethical consumption under capitalism EXCEPT FOR small riso print runs from independent artists. As far as I am concerned, this type of capitalism is totally laudable and morally pure, and its pure qualities can only be exceeded by, like, the type of capitalism you are doing when you trade shiny trash with crows in your back yard.
