I talked about Pill Baby for the Unearthed Treasure Room showcase
For the showcase, organized by Liz Ryerson and Melos Han-Tani, I talked about Pill Baby, a game absolutely stuffed full of STUFF - a huge combat system, side quests, art interludes, hideous enemies, slow-mo killing blows, and an intense story about what it's like to immigrate to a wealthy country for work. I think this game is really special and I was disappointed more people didn't talk about it when it came out.
It's kind of a confessional game, but it's also a game where:
- You fight a giant evil drone in a boss battle on the banks of a British narrowboat canal
- You get embodied as a fetus and fly around a dark mansion confronting your family traumas
I just love how ambitious and confessional and collage-y it is. When I think about the kinds of games I want to play from small teams, this is what I think of!!
Anyway, check out the showcase below. Thank you to Liz for asking me to prepare something for it!
