Laura Michet's Blog

I have been blogging daily for six months

I didn't set out with the goal of publishing a blog post every single day without fail - it's not something I pin a lot of importance on - but posting once a day turned out to be pretty easy for me. Or... not particularly difficult, anyway.

I think of this as taking all the energy I was spending on social media and simply spending it here instead. It turns out I was spending an awful lot of energy thinking about social media sites!

Here's some stuff I do which may have contributed to how easy I find it:

  1. As I said: I do not read any other social media sites habitually... except Reddit. Reddit thinks of itself as social media, but functions more like a collection of forums. I therefore find it easier to disengage from. Because I'm not checking a more traditional social media app multiple times a day, I have a lot of energy to post here that I'm not wasting on other expressions of my opinions or interests elsewhere.

  2. I usually queue up multiple days' worth of posts at a time, several days in advance. When I have energy to spend looking at the internet and writing, I spend a couple hours writing 2-5 blog posts, queue them all up, and then take a couple days where I'm basically not paying much attention to anything but the news.

  3. I try to post one link roundup every Sunday. A lot of them are pretty short. This means that I'm only spending energy on writing about six posts a week rather than seven.

  4. A lot of my posts are pretty short. A lot of them are just links to a YouTube video. This is easy for me to do and is basically equivalent to the kind of thing I would post on a microblogging platform or on cohost, if I were still using those platforms.

  5. Finally, I benefit from a certain personal arrogance or confidence that you are probably going to at least tolerate anything I throw at you. If you don't want to watch a video about a 737 simulator or a post about Pokemon or a link to a subreddit about worm farming, I know you are just going to skip it. I can say whatever I want without feeling bad because I know you all owe me nothing, and nothing I can say can ever be a burden on your time. The quality bar is in the basement. I use tags to mark stuff I consider more important and link those tags at the top of my homepage. You'll notice I tag everything from YouTube or Reddit, but don't link those on the homepage... I consider that stuff low-value, so I'm not gonna remind you or myself about it, haha.

I'm going to continue with this for the time being. It hasn't been particularly hard for me, even though my life has been very busy. If you continue to read my blog, you have many worthless YouTube videos in your future. I promise that a lot of them will be funny if you take the time to watch!
