Congrats to Shel on 1000 iNat observations
I have been iNaturalist-posting a lot lately. Here's another iNat link: check out Shel Kahn's post about reaching 1000 observations on iNaturalist!
Their blog post contains a lot of particularly nice nature photography and some thoughts about what iNaturalist has meant in their life over the years. I've barely scratched this level of dedication - most of my observations are low-quality phone camera pics, and I'm not super good at identifying anything except the weeds I see most often next to the sidewalk. Shel's effort at actually learning about the natural world around them is very inspirational!
I really do recommend just getting the app an using it as a focal lens through which to direct your attention at the world around you. It's important to turn your attention at the world around you, but it's also fun, and you will have plenty of opportunities to use it even if you live in a city. I literally photograph plants growing out of cracks in the sidewalk. (Most of the ones on my street are Greater or Ribwort Plantains. See?! I learned something!)
