Blippo+ press event

A few weeks ago I somehow found myself at a press event for Blippo+, a game about a weird FMV TV channel which is already out on Playdate but will soon be out on Steam.

You should probably see this trailer:

I don't do press anymore! But this event had a public invite link, and it was at the Bob Baker Marionette Theater, which I've always wanted to visit. It is an LA fixture that's been around for 60 years, and it seems like a good thing to visit if you ever come to town as a tourist. They do shows during the week as well as on weekends - I have just never made time to visit before.

I now feel like I have had the partial BBMT experience... the marionette theater staff did a puppet show performance themed after Blippo+ as part of the event.

The theater is already extraordinarily red, but the puppeteers also wear all red dresses and coveralls, so looking back through my camera roll I've struggled to find a photo which is visually intelligible, haha. At any rate, they came out one by one and had their puppets perform a Blippo-themed "fashion show," while a voice actress who worked on the game read out some stuff about each outfit. I assume the stuff she was saying was referring to fashion designer characters from the game.

There were also computers running the game, as well as a bunch of props from Blippo's FMV content on display. I don't know what this is, yet, but I hope to learn someday:

I really enjoyed Panic's previous comedy release, Thank Goodness You're Here. This Blippo event actually had a bunch of free canned "Peans," a... foodstuff mentioned in that game. (In real life, the Peans was nonalcoholic beer, but in the game it seems to be some kind of pea-and-bean based food.) I drank a whole can of Peans. I was so caught up in the moment and enjoying myself with Peans that I forgot to take a photograph of it before crushing it dramatically with both hands and announcing to my friends that I had finished drinking my Peans.

This was probably the most fun press event I've ever been at! And I'm not even press anymore. I think it was helped by Bob Baker theater being a genuinely cool and important local place that I was glad to see for the first time, regardless of whatever games stuff was taking place inside it. Ever surface I looked at had something interesting and weird on it. For example, there was a spinning mobile of grotesque-looking clay fish on one side of the room, and the press event was just taking place around it:

My takeaway from this is that I am probably going to play Blippo+, and I am probably going to come back and see a classic marionette performance here! It seems interesting!!
