Been playing a shit ton of Qud
I've been a huge Caves of Qud freak for close to a decade now. Since the game hit 1.0, I've been gladly diving back in... and damn, it really is wild how much the final bits of polish add to this game.
I've been so used to playing this game for years with a certain amount of placeholder art or unfinished content, but seeing the whole thing finished up with the new UI is such a revelation. It really does look and feel fantastic to play. The fine details in the UI - fine pixelly lines and so on - really do fit the game's whole aesthetic-in-text well, too. Everything in this game is a bizarre tech contraption engraved with a filigree of incomprehensible wiring and/or figurative art, and the UI really does look like that, too.
I've also found myself adopting the "roleplay" game mode, which allows checkpointing at villages. For years I have only played in the traditional permadeath roguelike mode, and I got pretty damn good at it, too. But not having to restart constantly is a great way to accelerate to the new endgame content, so that's what I'm doing. I am not there yet - I'm playing very slowly and am currently about to enter Bethesda Susa at like, level 23 - but I'm enjoying myself.
I highly recommend picking up Qud now if you have never tried it before - it has the polish and the game modes necessarry to help you learn to play as easily as possible. In a few days I'll post a guide to making it as easy as possible to get buff as hell and cruise to the endgame, too - the techniques I used to get as deep as possible into the plot while I was playing in permadeath, basically.
Qud is so good and I am so happy for the dev team!! Good job everyone!!!!
