World Cup energy in LA is pretty sweet
Every time I get on the train, the system is packed with people in Mexico jerseys heading to fan events...
It's exciting! I get the sense that FIFA has claimed enormous mindshare in the US since the last few World Cups. It's not just because there's a game in this city - most of the excitement I'm seeing is for games that are not actually happening in LA. Very cool!!
I played soccer as a kid in middle school and my first year of high school, but like most Americans, I disengaged entirely when I quit the sport at got older. I wasn't even particularly aware of global stuff like the World Cup when I was a kid. It's neat that people are now!
