Read Bruno's post about live service game burnout
Bruno wrote a very good blog post about the kinds of things that can make a person burn out of a job they genuinely like. I resonated with a lot of the stuff here! I've also experienced profound lack of control over my own success at several previous games jobs.
The most offensive company communication I ever received was in 2020 or 2021, when my employer tried to make us complete a course about "resilience" during the period when we had, I think, the least control over the circumstances of our performance. I'm thinking about that a lot again today!
Bruno also gets into the unique way that live games exacerbate the dynamics most likely to cause burnout. I don't know that I've ever touched a live game which didn't routinely burn out its workers and its leadership.
If you work in this field, check it out! It probably speaks to people in other fields, too - particularly fields where you ship material to the public constantly.
