Read Bruno's post about DLSS 5
Bruno Dias wrote an article for Remap this week about DLSS 5, the gen-AI powered Nvidia graphics technology which redraws each frame of a videogame without any real knowledge of the underlying 3D space. It's essentially putting a kind of instagram reels-ass filter on every frame you see, redrawing faces to look "hotter" and changing the lighting in every scene.
Bruno argues that people have wrongly characterized DLSS 5 as "free of visual artifacts." It creates tons of graphics errors by removing and adding lighting from scenes in ways that make them harder to process visually. Shadows simply vanish in the places where the AI doesn't think they should exist - even if the shadows were placed by, like, the needs of the actual lighting model.
