I have to keep reminding myself that despite being fairly severely underemployed at the moment - I have part of my time spoken for, but not all of it, and not at the rate I was previously being paid - my life is doing pretty OK. I am living a pretty charmed life! I enjoy a level of stability that I am very grateful for. Fifteen years ago, I never imagined I'd get into a place like this, where being laid off hasn't ruined my life (rather, it's probably improved it.) I have wriggled into a niche on the west side of LA where my living expenses are low, I can pay for my healthcare, and I can sometimes go and do fun things. It's astonishing how much fun you can have for free in Los Angeles. If you're bored here, you are almost certainly living life wrong...
