Makin' movies

I had the pleasure today of being an extremely small time and small stakes actor??? Partial PA???? on a friend's video project. It was the first time I've helped someone film something semi-serious since college. Even in college, though, we didn't have anyone around who had any real knowledge of... say... what type of camera to use, or what the terminology is for different kinds of shots, or how to create a shot list, or anything like that.

I got to see that kind of thing happen today, though! It was very interesting and informative, and very zero-budget [laudatory]. I had a great time and liked it a lot! I got to make a prop out of cardboard and an Xacto knife!! I died in a horrible bike crash scene! Nice!!

Your chance of seeing the video ever is zero, but, I assure you, it's good, and you should do this, too, even if you aren't young or energetic (because I'm definitely not anymore, either). There is something very immediate about the thrill of filming video that I miss badly in the creative process of game development. It's a lot of fun to handle the time pressure of having to get shots in, or to work around daylight conditions and stuff like that.

I feel invigorated! And also very tired, like I'm gonna die IRL!! I shouldn't have drunk two beers during the final hour of filming!!!
