It's crazy that bitsy has been around for ten years
I just found this blog post from Adam Le Doux, the creator of bitsy, a very tiny pixel art gamemaking tool that anyone can learn to use in almost no time at all. It hit me like a truck because: holy fuck, bitsy is ten years old??? I remember it coming out! What the fuck!
I made a bunch of games when bitsy came out. You can see all of them here. They were made with an early version of bitsy, back before modified versions of bitsy were available, so they are very simple. The ones with audio were ones where I caused the webpage to play audio independently of the bitsy game embed.
Bitsy is very very simple and limited, like flickgame, which I posted about earlier this year. It's awesome for tossing off small ideas, but people who are much more skilled than I am are constantly putting together surprisingly detailed and worthwhile micro-experiences with this tool. I recommend checking out bitsy games on itch.
One of the reason there are so many impressive bitsy games on itch is thanks to frequent, interestingly-themed bitsy game jams. Adam is hosting the 100th bitsy game jam in October. You should participate if this tool interests you!! The jam is going to be ONE HUNDRED DAYS long, which means you have from October to January to submit something!
