I saw a ukelele performance
I recently had family in town, and one of the things they came to see, besides me, was a ukelele festival in Torrance.
At that festival, I saw the guy in this video play this arrangement of Billy Jean - the same preposterous one-ukelele version he plays in the video - live. It was extremely nuts. Feng E can actually make the ukelele make these sounds with his hands??? I don't even know too much about ukelele limitations, but I've absorbed enough from friends in college and from my ukelele-playing family member to know how fucking nuts this is:
I was also really impressed by some of his original music, which was all on an electric ukelele and involved a lot of pedals and stuff. When his new album comes out I'll probably share it here.
I do not watch a lot of live music! I used to play a lot of live music back in college - I was in a wind symphony, an orchestra, and a marching band - but I was playing timpani and xylophone, which are kind of hard to have in your apartment or to play live without the infrastructure of an entire symphony around you. I've been lucky enough to have a xylophone in my house for the last few years, but I barely play it because I don't really have any event to play it for. It's now finally packed up in the closet to get me more room for bike repair.
Anyway, it was a lot of fun to see live music again, and to see music I didn't really know much about. Because I was following my family member around, I had no idea what I was going to see here. Like, when I sat down in the theater, I did not even know this guy was going to show up. Then he made the ukelele make these noises!! Nuts!!
If I had more money I think I'd go to completely random shows more often! I used to do that at the movie theater... which is how I saw Sing Street, actually. Sometimes it's fun to be surprised!
