I recommend checking out the latest PMG video
This is not really a hidden find or anything - PMG are very high profile and if you're interested in this stuff you probably already know this video exists. But I do think it's worth taking time to watch this! I also think it could be a useful thing to show to teenagers or young people in your life.
I spent much of the early part of my career watching people entertain the idea that "powerful people" in games are somehow controlling what games say, or what the games media says. When they pointed at the powerful people whom they believed were doing all this, they generally pointed at people with very little money and power - people who may have had a high profile on social media, but little to no wealth. They were incorrectly identifying regular people with whom they disagreed - peers, a lot of the time - as people with genuine power over them or their interests.
This PMG video is a good education in what actual "control of the media" looks like - someone retaining a lawyer and spending likely tens of thousands of dollars challenging factual reporting in the press and silencing criticism with legal threats. Controlling public conversation in this way is a strategy that's only available to people with wealth - or, as the latter part of the video possibly reveals, connections to government officials.
I want to emphasize: as someone who was working in Southern California while these cases were percolating through the system... at Riot, another studio whose practices were investigated by the state... Well, as someone who lived through all that, it is very strange to watch a story about how the very nature of the world my friends and I all lived in is somehow still under dispute.
If you've got the cash to retain lawyers like these, though, you can keep fighting that battle into the middle of the next decade. This lesson might be interesting to any young people in your life who are super interested in journalism and the arts. The people who have the power to control your interests and your industry are not your peers, or people with whom you simply disagree - they're people who have the power to call up someone in government and make something happen.
