I have been playing the crap out of Slay the Spire 2

I haven't posted about this yet, but the game I've played the longest in the last month is actually Slay the Spire 2. It's great!

I am not a particularly sophisticated player - I do not have a big enough brain to complete runs with any regularity - but I do regularly complete dailies. So far, my main experience of the game has been doing these daily runs. The daily mode assigns you a random character, which comes with a random number of modifiers and debuffs. I tend to not engage with modifier systems in regular roguelikes, because I don't like applying debuffs to myself?? It is a stupid psychological thing, I guess. I'll gladly play a mode which assigns me debuffs at random.

I really enjoy the way the art in this game has changed since Slay the Spire. The game looks fundamentally "the same" - great pains ahve been taken to just provide more of a good thing - but the art is a lot more detailed, the enemies continue to be impossibly weird, and the animations remain odd as fuck. I like it. The game is uniquely unlovely, on purpose... and I really have to admire that commitment!!

Anyway, if you are on the fence about this one, it's completely enjoyable even in early access. I think the fact that some art assets are still MS Paint sketches only adds to its charm. Gameplay-wise, all the characters currently in the build are fun, very playable, and feel pretty "complete" to me - at the level I'm playing at, anyway.

In fact, one of the reasons I am mostly playing dailies is to have a way to stop myself from playing. I think I wou ld sink hours into this if I wasn't watching myself!
