Laura Michet's Blog

Check out Warp Point

There's a lot of "small web" navigation tools out there now - bukmark.club, Marginalia Search, indieblog.page, The Forest, ooh.directory, and eighteightthirtyone are just the ones I have bookmarked.

These are fun! I don't expect to get recommended to stuff I'm actually going to follow in my RSS reader through these sites, though. The vast majority of neocities pages or personal blogs are interesting to me just as a momentary distraction. They are mostly things I intend to look at for less than fifteen minutes, as some kind of palate-cleansing view into someone else's life.

So I was excited to see Warp Point kick off this week, because it's a small web/blog aggregator specifically targeted at videogame blogs, which is the one kind of blog I'm likely to be more interested in than a random sampling of personal sites. If you have one, you can submit it here. I think it's very cute and funny that you actually MUST have an 88x31 button image in order to submit to this aggregator... so I had to make one when I submitted my blog, which was accepted.

Here is my 88x31:

88x31

I suppose requiring the creator to have one of these images is a great bulwark against unserious submissions. If you don't have one, you have to sit down and make one. They're also used in the cute webring widget, which I can just paste in here:

Anyway, I'm excited to see where this one goes. I think the site design is pretty good - it's easy to browse and looks nice. For these "web 1.0 aggregator" sites, it actually pays for the site itself to be pretty NON-Web-1.0, to look good and cute and have fun ways of displaying or randomizing the data.

Which is really my only ask for the site - I kind of just want a big randomizer button at the top! That's what I love about some of the other sites I linked above. I use the ones with randomizers much more often.

Anyway, if you've got a blog which is "dedicated to video games, or cover[s] them as a significant portion of the total spread of topics", and it has an RSS feed and an 88x31 button, you should stick it in here!
